Design and Technology
At Sandhills Community Primary School Design and technology is an inspiring, rigorous and practical subject. Children are encouraged to think creatively in order to solve problems including making improvements to existing ideas and products. In doing this, children are making positive contributions and changes to their own and others’ lives. They develop a curiosity for learning and uncover and discover new skills, knowledge and understanding of designing and making functional products.
The subject has been carefully planned to provide progression in skills and activities which build on their developing knowledge and understanding throughout their time at our school. These activities are linked to the termly topics where possible. For example, in Year 5, children study A Child’s War in History; through Design and Technology, they design, make and evaluate Anderson shelters.
